Chris St. Hilaire to launch No War Suite in direct support of Musicians Without Borders

BROOKLYN, NY – In this time of extreme and long-lasting global conflict, Trinidadian-American multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, arranger, and producer Chris St. Hilaire will release No War Suite on November 11th in direct support of Musicians Without Borders – a global organization that works to bring music to people and places affected by war, armed conflict, and displacement. The two-song EP featuring “No War Drum” and “Cease” is an invitation for communities around the world to engage in joyful resistance against needless wars and occupation.
“We don't beat no war drum, we only drum for freedom,” is the recurring theme on “No War Drum,” which St. Hilaire uses to convey the demands of the many who are fighting to resist while remaining non-violent. The song demonstrates what a unified orchestra can accomplish through music when promoting freedom, rooted in solidarity.
“Well they bombing in the east, yeah they bombing in the west, they taking what they please and destroying all the rest,” St. Hilaire sings on “Cease.” The claims of self-defense that world-leading countries put forth are called into question when St. Hilaire examines the motives of countries destroying livelihoods in the pursuit of mining natural resources, protection of shipping lanes, and colonialism. The song concludes by drawing further attention to a litany of sixteen countries who are actively being bombed or who are facing war in some capacity (and not an entirely comprehensive list).
With this pair of songs, Chris St. Hilaire utilizes the power of satire as political commentary, and is armed with steelpan, percussion, brass, woodwind, strings, and vocal arrangements to present messages of resistance for the world. All money from sales of No War Suite will be directed to Musicians Without Borders in support of its ongoing community-driven work to bring the healing power of music to people and places affected by war, armed conflict, and displacement through local led, culturally connected programs.
